Happy New Year!
I
would like to welcome both new and returning members to Alabama-Mississippi
TESOL. We are happy to be a growing organization and are looking forward to
your participation and support.
As
many of you know, this past September AMTESOL hosted the 2008 Southeast
Regional Conference in Birmingham. It was quite a success and attendance
exceeded our expectations. Thank you so much to our conference chair, Julia
Austin, and all of those who helped both officially and unofficially.
Since
we hosted the SETESOL conference, AMTESOL will not hold an annual conference
for this year, 2009. Our next AMTESOL conference will be held at the
University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, on January 29 and 30,
2010. Dr. Esim Erdim, our conference chair, is already hard at work and
would love some assistance. Please contact Esim (eerdim@olemiss.edu)
if you are able to volunteer.
Fortunately, the 2009 SETESOL conference will also be geographically near
for many of us. It will be hosted by Georgia TESOL at the Atlanta Hilton
Hotel on September 16-19, 2009. Find out more at

During our non-conference year, your board will continue to work on ways in
which we can better serve you. Joy Brown is diligently working on updating
and expanding our website and you may be receiving emails from time to time
with new resources and opportunities. Feel free to let us know the ways in
which AMTESOL can serve you better. I look forward to hearing from you.
